Barrow County is one of the 156 counties located in the state of Georgia. Its county seat is Winder. Barrow is a part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county was named for Professor David Crenshaw Barrow, Jr. - a chancellor from the University of Georgia.
The county was officially created in 1914 through the approval of the amendment by Georgia voters. The new county is composed of land areas from parts of Gwinnett, Jackson, and Walton Counties. Barrow is the 9th county in the sate to obtain the ability to ID illegal and prisoners in the jail.
