Historical indeed, Statham City was accepted on December 17, 1998 in the National Register of Historic Places. First known as the Talasee Colony, the city used to be an Indian Village named Calamit on the Ocoloco Trail, which inhabitants were the Cherokee and Creek Indians. The first batch of settlers arrived in 1784 and to whom a large part of Calamit was sold by the Indian Chief Umausauga at a worth of 14pounds of beads and had it named Beadland.

Statham flourished from two businesses owned and operated by a couple named Mr. and Mrs. M. J. C. Statham, a country store and a post office. The post office was known at first as the Barber's Creek, then name changed to DeLay and finally in 1892, to Statham.

Statham, a city in the County of Barrow, Georgia is situated 33°57′56″North 83°35′48″ West with a total area of 3.6 square miles in which 3.5 square miles is all land and 0.1 square miles is water. It has a population density of 578 people for every square meter with an average of 744 house units in an average density of 219.3 per square mile.

Statham Georgia's Metamorphosis

The railroad construction in 1898 and 1891 across Statham has marked the beginning of the community which caused a large transformation to the place with very few homes into a creation of a town. On December 20, 1892, Statham was incorporated and on the same day, received its first Charter. Town's incorporated area is extending one mile to all directions surrounding Seaboard Depot which is the town's center. It was around 1900 when the first depot in town was built. One of the depots is still standing today, which was built in the year 1912.

The town's first bank was known as Statham Bank. It started its services in April 1904. So to encourage visitors and investors to enter the town, the bank directors had a great idea of printing facts on the back of the bank's envelopes'. By then, Statham had grown and became a prosperous town in Seaboard Airline Railroad. Active business establishments in town included 10 businesses, drug store, furniture and hardware store, prosperous bank, meat market, fine dental parlor, classy hotel, cotton warehouse, two large cotton ginneries, livery stables, brick-making plants, barber shops, blacksmith shops, three churches and one free public school.

As automobile industry began to grow, better roads developed and due to the economic depression during 1930's, a lot of business establishments were greatly affected and had closed as many people are opting to shop in larger towns. Currently, Statham is continuously thriving and growing with approximately 2, 200 population having its settlers joined by new families moving to this beautiful place.

Another recreation park, off the Dooley Town Road in Furr Lane is being built. It has a combination of long and short range plans. The Carl Hale Trail is connecting Broad Street to Railroad Street, along the post office, which can be utilized as a golf cart trail.
